Assateague Island - Page 2
Although the campsite was idyllic, we weren't up for a whole week of 36C temperatures
and a west wind that blew all the mosquitoes from the wetlands out onto the dunes! Half
way through we packed up the tent and got a room in a little motel complex of charming,
white weatherboard cabins just over the
bridge on the mainland and 'commuted' to the beach.
On the last night we
joined some local longboarders for a final surf, just as the sun went down,
then lit a fire and had dinner on the
beach as the hot weather broke with a big thunderstorm broke. We watched the surf
break in the lightning flashes
and had just packed up when the torrential, warm rain started.
